Art has a responsibility to at least occasionally shine a light into the dark ugly crevices of our personal lives and of society as a whole and in that way Lou Reed was a champion of rock n roll as an art not to mention the amazing sounds he added to the palate he spoke out on a range of issues and was a formidable class warrior singing about inequality on the hypocritical streets of Manhattan he was a poet for the junkie the tranny the garbage collector the immigrant the disenfranchised the nutjob the prostitute he shed His light into those spaces for the world to see how society really works on the ground level he was a tough old cuss with a heart and he wasn't afraid to release an album he knew the critics and fans would hate and I like that because art has a responsibility to at least occasionally shine a light into the dark ugly crevices of society as a whole and our personal lives and in that way he was a champion of rock n roll as an art
